The life and work of Egbert Rubertes Derk Schaap
Egbert was born on 04 July 1862 in Nigtevecht.
After completing his training at the Amsterdam State Academy of Art as a draughtsman and painter, he married Hendrika van der Pek (painter). They went to live and work in Kortenhoef, "Villa Nova".
Egbert painted mostly sunny landscapes, forest, river and city views in his surroundings (Ankeveen, Kortenhoef, Nigtevecht, s'Graveland and Vreeland). He has made a good name for himself within impressionism. He was one of the founders of the St. Lucas guild in Amsterdam and was its chairman from 1913 to 1931.
Egbert died on 24-05-1939 in Ankeveen.
