Odilon Redon

THE PAINTER ODILON REDON (1840 - 1916)
Odilon was a French painter belonging to Symbolism. Redon's work seems to depict a dream world populated by fairies, monsters, ghosts and other fantasy figures.
From the 1890s, Redon began painting. This revealed his enormous talent as a colourist. He began to paint mythological scenes and flowers, proving proficient in both oil and pastel crayons.
Henri Matisse particularly admired Redon's flower paintings. Later, the Surrealists viewed Redon as one of their predecessors.
In addition to paintings and drawings, Redon also designed fabrics to cover furniture
