AMSTERDAM CITYSCAPE WITH HOUSES ON THE HERENGRACHT BY JAN VAN DER HEYDEN
Original: oil on panel 57.5 x 44 cm bxh
Date: ca. 1670
The painting shows a combination of different locations, a characteristic of Jan's work. It shows the old Haarlemmersluis on Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal with houses that are actually on Herengracht. The detail of the bricks is a given about Jan van der Heyden's work. Jan did not paint the figures himself but had them painted by Adriaen van der Velde, Eglon van der Neer or Johannes Lingelbahn.
