In the painting we see fishing boats, one of them in shallow water on a calm sea. In the foreground is one of the fishermen with the anchor. Hendrik Mesdag was very impressed by the sea because of its beauty, its grandeur in combination with the skies. He is therefore famous for his many sea paintings.
