This painting was probably not made as a painting but as a 'dessus de porte', which means an 'ornament fitting the door' above an important door. It shows a painting of various flowers, including peonies, tulips and violets arranged in an earthenware pot.
This is one of the few still lifes by Francesco. For the most part, Francesco painted cityscapes, other views and religious paintings.
