Paintings of Adriaen Coorte
Adriaen painted the small paintings 'A Branch of Gooseberries', '4 Apricots on a Plinth', 'Still Life of Asparagus' and 'Strawberries on a Stone Plinth' at the end of the 17th century. They were not painted as a series but as a group of related works of various fruits/vegetables. The fruit/vegetables and the flowers were executed with meticulous precision against a dark background and Adriaen made use of the incidence of light.
Adriaen Coorte always signed his paintings on the stone plinth.
