THE PAINTING GIRL IN BLUE - 1641

Original: oil on canvas 66,5 x 82 cm, wxh

Johannes Verspronck painted an unknown girl of prosperous parents here. In the 17th century, the children of wealthy people were richly dressed. In this case, they were dressed in modern, gossamer clothing, decorated with gold brocade, with a lace collar and cuffs, expensive pearls and a feather fan. The attention is completely focused on the girl because Johannes uses a neutral background and the light and shadow. The look in her eyes shows that she is still a very young girl, probably about ten years old.

Her image was used in 1945 on the new fl. 25 note.
