The painting belongs to the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Thérèse Schwartze painted this model in Italian dress in her Parisian studio. She exchanges a glance with the dog Puck on her right. The various rich fabrics of her dress are well captured. For a young Dutch woman at the time, working in Paris was as unconventional as pursuing a professional artist's career. But as a painter's daughter, Schwartze was used to it.
