The painting shows the portrait of Adriana Croes, born on 2 April 1599 and married to Hendrik van Strijp on 17 April 1618. Adriana died on 19 June 1656.
Adriana Croes lived in Haarlem all her life. Adriana is the mother of Maria van Strijp and mother-in-law of Eduard Wallis. Johannes Cornelisz Verspronck also did portraits of them.
