Two Dutch officers watering their horses by the river Waal, between Nijmegen and Kleve, and a shepherd with his flock. It is a sunlit vista with a light layer of clouds. Just Holland, and not, as one might at first think, a vista in Italy. For although he had never been to Italy, Aelbert could capture sunny, Mediterranean atmospheres like the best of them.
