SKATING IN A VILLAGE BY HENDRIK AVERCAMP
Original: oil on panel 70.4 x 35.7 cm bxh
The painting Skating in a Village by Hendrick Avercamp shows the view of a village, with many people skating and playing on the ice. On the left-hand side of the painting, 'Skating in a village', two people have fallen through the ice. A drawbridge and a windmill can be seen in the distance.
The love of ice landscapes, of which Skating Riding in a Village is just one, probably originated in Hendrick Avercamp's youth, when he could often be found on the ice with his parents.
