STILL LIFE WITH GILDED GOBLET BY WILLIAM CLAESZ HEDA
Original: Oil on panel, 113 x 88 cm, wxh
Date: 1635
The painting shows a composition of a finished good meal.
The table is set with a dark green tablecloth topped with two damask napkins, a silver bowl that has fallen over, pewter plates with oyster shells on them and a piece of broken bread. In the glass, still half full, one can see the reflection of the window as well as the pewter jug. Willem worked in a very realistic manner, making frequent use of grey-green and silver colours. His still lifes were often called "breakfast" or "banquet".
