THE WEIGHHOUSE AND THE CRANE ON THE SPAARNE IN HAARLEM BY GERRIT ADRIAENSZ BERCKHEYDE
Original: oil on panel 45,5 x 35 cm bxh
Date: 1660 - 1698
As the painting suggests, Gerrit has painted the Waag on the Spaarne in Haarlem. Boats lie in the water, and on the quay the merchandise is ready for further transport by horse. The Gravenstenen Bridge and a windmill can be seen in the distance, with the Bakenesse Church on the left. It is interesting to note that the Waag, the Gravenstenen Bridge, the Mill and the Bakenesse Church still look exactly as they do today.
