THE PAINTING THE MILL AT WIJK BIJ DUURSTEDE BY JACOB ISAACKSZ. VAN RUISDAEL
Original: oil on canvas 101 x 83 cm bxh
Date: 1668
The windmill rises majestically, defies the dark rain clouds and renders the castle and church of Wijk bij Duurstede null and void. In the foreground the Lek flows. This is rightly a world-famous painting. Ruisdael has united all the Dutch elements in an impressive manner - the lowland, the water and the sky - and he allows them to come together in the equally Dutch windmill.
The painting belongs to the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
